Why Fresh48?

Fresh48 photography has been a big thing in the US for years and it’s finally making its way to Australia and I am loving it! The trend is all about capturing photos in those first 2 days after birth. When you’re still in the hospital, full of happy post-baby hormones and your newborn is super duper fresh.

These sessions are 30 minutes and include at least 30 images (but we all know I love to overdeliver).

Why are they so popular?

A fresh 48 is capturing all of their firsts (and yours if it is your first baby). You might capture siblings meet each other for the first time, the first bath (if timed right), the first wind smile, perhaps their first yawn. We also capture little details like baby feet, hands, baby snuggled up in the hospital bassinet and snuggles with mum and dad. Babies change so much even in those first few days and it is becoming more and more popular to do a fresh48 session and then follow it up with an in-home newborn session a few weeks later and I love it! Aaaaalll the baby photos.

So how does it work?

When you’re expecting you book in as soon as possible and let me know your due date and the hospital you are planning to birth. We all know babies come whenever they want (keeping us on our toes right from the get-go) so while I need to know your due date this is because I only take 2 Fresh48 clients per week so I’m not too busy to come out to you when it’s go time. Even for planned c-sections, sometimes bub decides they don’t want to wait haha.

Once bub arrives, you’ll reach out to me either via email or message and let me know and I’ll arrange to come up during visiting hours within 48 hours (or 72 if you need a little extra time post-birth for recovery). I’ll usually come right at the beginning or right at the end of visiting hours so you can still have your family and friends come and I’m not too much of a disruption.

If you have older children, we can schedule it so the first half of the session is just you and bub and then we can get the moment the older kids meet their newest family member. This makes for lots of gorgeous moments captured forever. Highly recommend.

How do we prepare for a Fresh48?

Have the baby’s outfit picked out and in your hospital bag well in advance and try and keep the area nearest to the window in your hospital room as tidy as you can (but I’ll move things around if I need to). Make sure any other people who will be in the images are wearing neutral colours so that baby is the star of the show.

What happens if we are unable to do the session at the hospital?

In those rare occurrences of unforeseen complications, we can upgrade to an at-home newborn session for a reduced fee.

I hope that helps understand this new trend and how to get in on it!

Until next time x
